Don't ask questions, just accept that as a fact and move on.

Now, with that out of the way, I am sorry for not writing more often. I know all my readers(all 1 or 2 of you) missed me horribly. I can't say I'm TOO sorry though. The reason being is I have big things in the works... big things I tell you. You must believe! And you must believe in me!

Yours truely may have landed a gig Friday nights at Club "Somewhere Else" - I'm going to visit the club this week to check out the layout, and get a feel for the equipment. I'll be speaking with the promoter about ideas on how to make Friday Nights at Somewhere Else strong. I'll let all two of you know how it goes.

I do have two radio spots that are confirmed. I will be uploading a new set to LoveTheWeekend.Com and will be working with them to bring you some LIVE performances in the near future. And don't miss my 1 hour guest spot on LRCN's weekly show entitled 4x4 101 - I will be appearing on 1/22 and you can tune in easily by visiting AfterHoursDJs.Org. A DJ who hails from Wisconsin, he is sure to please your ears. I was first exposed to Granddaddy DJ on DI.FM on the progressive channel. Not his normal genre to play, but nontheless I was left wholey impressed. I researched more and caught his birthday mix also featured on DI.FM on the trance channel, as well as a mix for the goa/psy channel. A very talented DJ with far too much experience, I'm now working on bringing this man out to the beautiful state of CO so all the party kids can witness the skillz and attest to the sounds this DJ brings from behind the decks. Right click this link, and select "Save Target As" kiddies. I dont want to eat up too much of Granddaddy's bandwidth. Not that the one or two of you who read this should matter too much. But aside from that, its worth saving.

pepsi: nectar of the gods

Although DJ Etan and I have fairly different tastes, I'm certain we both feel that our days and nights are sculpted and defined by music. While rampant customer stupidity and the feeling that all of management has head-up-ass syndrom wears my sanity thin, my saving graces are chatting with my crazy talented-intelligent cool friends and listening to music. When you work somewhere for four years and you listen to music at least six hours a day, a substantial collection of albums is necessary. My favorite thing to do is to make my own mix cds. It's a rather therapeutic experience when I sit down at my computer and choose 16-20 of my favorite songs, carefully selected for their compatibility. Some of them have a specific theme and some are so random that they actually create their own mood. Here is my most recent mix and my favorite snippet from each song.

Happy Thanksgiving: You Will Never Know Me

Track 1: Sullen Girl by Fiona Apple
they don't know i used to sail the deep and tranquil sea but he washed me shore and he took my pearl and left an empty shell of me and there's too much going on but it's calm under the waves in the blue of my oblivion

Track 2: Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers
i've hungered for your touch alone lonely times and time goes by so slowly and time can do so much are you still mine i need your love god speed your love to me

Track 3: Walk Me Home by Mandy Moore
i hold your picture next to my heart all the time you're my dream come true so glad you're mine and i wondered how it would be if i was your lady and you were my friend

Track 4: In the Arms of Sleep by The Smashing Pumpkins
and i'll always need her more than she could ever need me i need someone to ease my mind but sometimes a someone is so hard to find and i'll do anything to keep her here tonight and i'll say anything to make her feel alright and i'll be anything to keep her here tonight because i want you to stay with me i need you tonight

Track 5: Morning in a Bar by Bree Sharp
morning in a bar daylight in an old beer bottle the sun's the only star in a sky that went from blue to yellow and the flashes of the scene i'd made just the night before and the ashes of my great my undoing lay scattered on the floor

Track 6: Starter by The Cardigans
this is the age when my past should be gone but it's just stronger than the aims i have turning the pages i used to hang on to i was young and i have changed my mind and i'm leaving everything behind

Track 7: It's a Moutherfucker by The Eels
it's a motherfucker getting through a sunday talking to the walls just me again but i won't ever be the same i won't ever be the same it's motherfucker how much i understand the feeling that you need someone to take you by the hand and you won't ever be the same

Track 8: Worthy Of by Justin Timberlake
i constantly fight my insecurities when i can't reach by phone and oh lord knows that i'm only human so please forgive me if i ask so many silly questions i know that you truly love me but fear has me second guessing am i worthy of

Track 9: Petals by Mariah Carey
and i missed a lot of life but i'll recover though i know you really like to see me suffer still i wish that you and i'd forgive each other 'cause i miss you valentine and really loved you

Track10: Everlong by Foo Fighters
breathe out so i can breathe you in hold you in and now i know you've always been out of your head out of my head i sang and i wonder when i sing along with you if everything could ever be this real forever

Track11: Angel by Sarah McLachlan
there's always some reason to feel not good enough and it's hard at the end of the day i need some distraction oh beautiful release memories seep from my veins let me be emtpy oh or weightless then maybe i'd find some peace tonight

Track12: Where Did you Sleep Last Night by Nirvana
my girl my girl don't lie to me tell me where did you sleep last night in the pines in the pines where the sun don't ever shine i would shiver the whole night through

Track13: Jupiter's Lament by The Smashing Pumpkins
no one knows i can't be wrong so i'll sing the same old song i tried to be strong for you why have you left me amongst the tall trees i know i gave her all i have

Track14: The Way You Look Tonight by Elton John
so if you love me say you love me but if you don't just let me go 'cause teacher there are things that i don't want to learn and the last one i had made me cry so i don't want to learn to hold you touch you think that you're mine

Track17: It Must Have Been Love by Roxette
Many times when I don't want to read anything truly educational but feel guilty about reading more fiction, I find myself reading books like The Girl Genius Guide to Life: A Twelve-Step Program on How to Become a Grrl Genius, According to Me! by Cathryn Michon or The Bad Girl's Guide to Getting What You Want by Cameron Tuttle. Not that I actually need help or instructions on how to be a genius or a bitch, but it never hurts to make sure that my genius is as fine tuned as it can be.

But anyway, that isn't the point. In fact, I have no idea what the point is or if there even is one. It isn't likely. Being forgetful or pointless is part of that whole genius thing. Oh, that's right. The point was I'm a genius and I have venereal disease or something.

Who Loves The Party?

Obviously this person.. lol.

Ah, this takes me back to my party days... I'm starting to think that there may be a stitch of reality in something that seems too fantastic to be possible. Or perhaps it's a self-fulfilling prophecy kind of thing going on in my case. Regardless of what force is actually causing my misfortune, whether it be Karmatrya the All Powerful Goddess of Karma or my own fucked up unconscious, ever since my Skecher Rollerskate crashed into my bathroom mirror, it's been an oil-patch skid in to Shitsville.

If there is a seven year penalty attached to breaking a mirror, I personally feel that I should get a few years knocked off for style points. Instead of denying my desire to float on air (wheels) and caging my spirit, I used what limited space I had in my entry way and connected bathroom to practice my moves. I was attempting a single axel, but the mirror had other plans. The sliding door mirror jumped out suddenly while I was midair and I could do nothing to escape its vicious attack on me. My heel cracked the bottom third of the mirror into approximately 423 pieces and I fell to the floor with a splat. Added to which indignity, the mirror sprayed my face with all kinds of horrendous make up, making me look like some sort of Kiss reject. Oh the shame.

But wouldn't you agree that I deserve some style points? It wasn't like I was beating a blind boy's puppy with a mirror and it broke and the pieces flew in to the eyes of his sweet ol' grandma. If I did that, I would undoubtedly deserve seven years of bad luck. Strike that; seven years of waking up in a pile of shit without any shower in sight already late for an interview for a must get job in order to keep penis from falling off bad luck. But I don't deserve anything like that. In fact, I'm pretty sure that if I was owed any affliction, my Danger Zone wipe out was paybacks-a-plenty. But that's a story for a different time.

In closing, Karmatrya or my sick Unconscious, please cut me some slack. And it would be doubly appreciated if your leniency came in the form of a phatty jackpot when I'm out in Vegas in December.

Kisses,
Your DragQueen RollerDerby Hooker akaComicMischief

p.s. in case any of you guys were confused, i don't have a penis that i worry is going to fall off.

p.s.s. it always seems weird that people use the term "approximately" and then proceed to give an exact number, like 423 for example. when i think of an approximation, i see something more along the lines of 500, 1 billion, 5, but not 423. so i did that on purpose just so that i could tell you guys in this post script script that i think that is stupid

Eff the South!

http://www.fuckthesouth.com/

This link is tits...

-- "Let the Spanish keep it, it's a shithole," we said, but you had to have your fucking orange juice.

the conversations of a madwoman

My job is very, very boring. What I particularly liked about this mix, and I called it intriquing for this reason, is that this mix contains tracks I have never heard before, and quite frankly thats just not common. I've heard everything. Kolor Spektrum by Soul Mekanik is a helluv an opener that sets the tone for this mix. Dark, progressive, atomospheric, and sometimes tribal. If I were to use a pool to describe my writing, my simile would go a little like "Reading my thoughts is like watching somebody crack their head open on a diving board, the initial terror freezes all thought and just when your senses return and all logical voices in your head are screaming for you to get help, the blood begins to dance in the water and you are so mesmerized that you only realize you let someone die when the paramedics ask you to move out of the way." It's definitely life changing.

Anyway, I feel a tremendous amount of pressure to be riotously funny or witty or something in my first post. To kick things off, I thought I'd talk about feminine itch and boy bands. Some say the two are interchangeable.

But seriously, reading back (I didn't actually have to read back because I've read this blog for a long time) on DJ Etan's posts, he's so masculine. It's all sports and rock 'n' roll and chicks. As the key to any sort of successful partnership is equanimity, I will contribute a softer, more delicate body of work.

So prepare yourselves for endless rants about Justin Timberlake and ovulation.

Shopping for Records

So I ordered some new tunes from Euromusic a week or two ago. Got some fresh trance and progressive on the way.

- ENERGY 52 - CAFE DEL MAR REMIX/ANTHEM
- SATTVA - ECHO OF SILENCE
- SOLID GLOBE - NORTH POLE
- SOLID GLOBE - SAHARA
- G&M PROJECT - SUNDAY AFTERNOON
- ENDRE - KALLOCAIN
- RONSKI SPEED - E.O.S.
- MESH - PURPLE HAZE
- HYBRID - FINISHED SYMPHONY

I think all of them are good tunes, and should make good additions to the record bin, but my brain is a bit stretched as I'm wondering how I'm going to incorporate these into a set. In case you don't know, this young DJ, just 16 is on the up and up. Big things are going to come from him in the near future, as this kid deserves every break that comes his way. Look for an interview with Mr. Hills coming to WKRaP soon!

Hoo-Ah!

So, its been quite a while since I've had an entry into this thing. For that I truely am sorry. But I am going to make a concentrated effort to ensure that does not happen again. Some additional changes are coming to WKRaP - yeah yeah, there are always changes, I know - but these will benefit all of you, as well as the bl0g, and my own sanity.

Give a warm welcome to Comic Mischief, who is joining the "staff" here at WKRaP. She brings a pool of writing talent to WKRaP, something I myself don't exactly posess. Be sure to check out 2 of the bl0gs she currently writes for, <a href="<a">Nerdalicious, and Angry Young Democrats. Excellent reads.

Also, I'll be adding more and more links. We're up to about 175 links under the DJ category. I will also be adding my own personal favorite DJ Resource links. The best list of places to find your favorite DJ Gear - be it Vinyl, Cartridges, Mixers, Turntables, Clothing, etc. I have 100's of links put away, so please give me some time to add them in. Respek!

Finally Electronic Music is getting some recognition. This year, the category of “Best Electronic/Dance Album” has been added to the Grammys. There were some previous categorys that would seemingly fit the billing for EDM. —”Best Dance Recording” and “Best Remixed Recording" you would think would fall under the EDM category. But in 2003 Beyonce featuring Jay-Z's "Crazy In Love" took home the award for best remixed recording. Give me a fucking break. Not to diss Jay-Z as I was heavily impressed with his "black album" - but how does a pop-chart sensation fall into this category? Don't they win enough awards? I know Richard Humpty Vision did win a grammy for one of his albums - either "Damn That DJ Made My Day" or "Shut The Fuck Up And Dance" - I can't recall off the top of my head. But still, its been hard for deserving EDM artists to make their way into this prestigous awards ceremony. Finally EDM is getting a bit more respect.

Click the heading of this post to read an article from djmixed.com about this. Oh, and by the way the links have been updated. A few more well deserving DJ's added. I promise, I will be working on the DJ Resources links soon. All of my own personal favorite online DJ equipment and record stores and resources.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Tiesto made olympic HISTORY on Friday, August 13th when he became the first DJ EVER to perform in an Opening Games Ceremony of the Olympic Games. Talk about a world stage. Fuck yeah! Nearly 4 BILLION people watched the 28th Olypic Game's openening ceremonies. No DJ has EVER performed at the Olympic Games. It just goes to show you that this DJ is highly respected in the world of music, especially in Europe.

"In October 2003, Tiesto was approached by the Athens Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (ATHOC) for a DJ-performance of 90 minutes during the parade of the athletes, a part of the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games

During this parade, all participating nations introduce their athletes, over 10,000 in total. ATHOC has shown it values art and innovation by asking the most popular DJ on Earth to produce the music for the parade.

In connection with this announcement, Tiesto said, “I am honored to be to be part of the biggest sports event in the world. The fact that the Games are returning to their birthplace and to the city where they were revived makes Athens 2004 very special. The opportunity to perform my music for billions of people around the globe will be the greatest highlight of my life.”

Hell yeah. Go Tiesto. One of the world's top DJ's.. this year voted the #1 DJ in the world. Its a great honor and a great example to spread the music and the vibe. Nothing better than a world stage. Litterally.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Album(s) Of The Day: Max Graham - Shine

I know I just posted about this album recently, but hot damn I cannot get enough of this disk. Just amazing. This has got to be one of the least masculine products ever. If wearing this men's leather skirt does not inspire people to put things in your ass, you'll just have to do it yourself.

Let's examine the name of this product -- Utilikilt. It's a quite clever combination of the words utility and kilt. We'll look at utility first. Weeeee it's a dictionary:

"Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913)"
Utility U*til"i*ty, n. OE. utilite, F. utilit'e, L.
utilitas, fr. utilis useful. See Utile.
1. The quality or state of being useful; usefulness;
production of good; profitableness to some valuable end;
as, the utility of manure upon land; the utility of the
sciences; the utility of medicines.

2. (Polit. Econ.) Adaptation to satisfy the desires or wants;
intrinsic value. See Note under Value, 2.

3. Happiness; the greatest good, or happiness, of the
greatest number, -- the foundation of utilitarianism. --J.
S. Mill.

So utility has three meanings. In one sense it is like manure. Another sense satisfies economic desires. The third sense is good for everyone. Hey, we're not done with the dictionary fun:

"Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913)"
Kilt Kilt, v. t. imp. & p. p. Kilted; p. pr. & vb. n.
Kilting.
To tuck up; to truss up, as the clothes. Scot. --Sir W.
Scott.

"Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913)"
Kilt Kilt,
p. p. from Kill. Obs. --Spenser.

"Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913)"
Kilt Kilt, n. OGael. cealt clothes, or rather perh. fr. Dan.
kilte op to truss, tie up, tuck up.
A kind of short petticoat, reaching from the waist to the
knees, worn in the Highlands of Scotland by men, and in the
Lowlands by young boys; a filibeg. Written also kelt.

Kilt also has three meanings. It can mean to tuck your clothes up. It can be what you did to the now dead skirt-wearing guy. Or it can be a specific piece of clothing worn by Scottish men.

With three meanings for each part, we now have nine possible meanings for Utilikilt. They are:

Clothes for tucking up manure (around your junk)

Manure made from dead things

Shitty Scottish manskirt

Clothes to wrap up your desires

Satisfying killing

Scottish skirt for desirable men

Happiness in tucking

Death is best for most

Scottish skirts are great for every man

Which is the intended meaning of Utilikilt? I have no fucking clue but I do know some things about Scottish people and I learned them all from movies. For instance, Scottish men are brave and love hot, hot women some of whom die then haunt your ass. Also, modern Scottish people are angry because it's SHITE being Scottish! They're the lowest of the low. The scum of the fucking Earth! The most wretched miserable servile pathetic trash that was ever shat on civilization. Some of them hate the English. But they're just wankers. The Scottish, on the other hand, are colonized by wankers and can't even find a decent culture to get colonized by. They're ruled by effete assholes. It's a shite state of affairs to be in and all the fresh air in the world won't make any fucking difference!

Servile patheticness is funny which is why Scottish people like jokes and precisely why Scottish men still wear kilts. It's all a big prank on the English wankers who are afraid to be insensitive to prancing, free-balling Scottish guys. Of course, some humorless jackass from Seattle doesn't get the joke so he makes and sells "DAMN HOT" crotchless men's garments with nice stitching in imitation of silly Scotty party clothes. I haven't picked up any CD's in ages so I just thought I'd share.

Max Graham - Shine
Hyper - Wired
Hybrid - Morning Sci-Fi

The Max Graham disk has to be by far the best disk I've heard from him yet. Tranceport 4 was amazing, this blows it out of the water. Highlights include such tunes as Madoka - Altered and Medway - Trauma(Inkfish Remix). From start to finish this disk builds and builds and builds, and then the long awaited climax hits you and you're just floored. Absolutely amazing. This Canadian DJ deserves all the support he can get. I've had the pleasure of seeing him live at Red Rocks in Colorado, and he DID NOT disappoint. Outperformed Oakenfold that night, who I'm not a big fan of anyway.

"By 7AM the music I typically play has vocal elements and some heavy strings. That is where this CD is made... Somewhere around 6 or 7 in the morning... Tracks that tap into your head and make you close your eyes, imagining a better place to be. Then, opening them to realize you are there, surrounded by friends feeling the same thing you are. That's what SHINE is all about. I hope this CD comes as close to creating that feeling as the night itself..." --- Max Graham

The Hyper disk is chalk full of breakz madness. A bit of electroclash. A bit of progressive remixed to a breakz beat. A little bit of everything, heavy on the bass. I thoroughly enjoyed this double disk album and would recommend it to anyone. Killer tracks such as Hyper vs General Midi - We've Been Waiting(which I own, and should be featured on my next mix!), Plump DJ's - Pray For You(Lee Coombs Vocal Mix), Chable & Bonnici - Ride(Have A Break Mix), and more. This double disk will not dissapoint!!!

Be sure to visit DJ Hyper's Official Website for more on this incredible DJ and Producer.

What can you say about Hybrid's Morning Sci-Fi? Incredible. This proven producer(s) has a track record of producing BIG TIME hits in both production andremixing. A very accomplished presence in the electronic world, and at the forefront of the breakbeat genre. If I tried to describe the sound that is Hybrid, I wouldn't do it justice. Take wicked break beats, intelligent break beatz, dark heavy basslines, with emphasis on strings that make the whole experience dark and hypnotizing, yet uplifting. The amalgamation of sound all comes together brilliantly. It's pure genius. Don't miss tracks such as True To Form, Know Your Enemy, visible Noise(off da hook!), Higher Than A Skyscraper, and Out Of The Dark(absolutely sickening!).

What's even better about this disk? It comes with a 2nd DVD feature length disk that includes live performances, interviews, footage of behind the making of this CD, a documentary, and exclusive unreleased mixes. Also, the DVD has Easter Eggs. Everyone loves Easter Eggs!!!

We are the music makers,
and we are the dreamers of the dream.
Wandering by lone sea breakers,
and sitting by desolate streams.
World losers and world forsakers,
for whome the pale moon gleams.
Yet we are movers and the shakers of the world
forever it seems.

--Aurthur O Shaunessey

http://www.hybridsoundsystem.com
http://www.distinctiverecords.com
http://www.hybrid-group.com
http://www.mckendrick.co.uk
http://www.excession.co.uk
http://www.codaagency.com
http://www.chaotica.com
http://www.studiodistribution.com
http://www.hybridized.org
http://www.kode.co.uk
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Album(s) Of The Day:
Jethro - Trancesphere Summer Sessions 2004 And LRCN - Trancesphere Summer Sessions 2004

What Kind Of Drug Are You?

What Kind Of Drug Are you? Click the Heading of this post to find out!!! You go by Jethro both as a DJ and a producer. Why did you choose this name?

Jethro: Actually Jethro is a nickname that I was given by my older brother when I was well younger. It just became my de facto nickname in everyday life, so where as some people use their full real name for their moniker, I just use my long standing nickname. Plus I already owned a nice lime green trucker hat with the name on it so it seamed like a perfect choice.

WKRaP: Do you wear the lime green trucker hat still? I have some old neon colored Jim Beam hats in my collection – talk about ugly - I can send them your way if you want. You’re also a producer, how long have you been producing? How long have you been a DJ? Which came first for you?

Jethro: I actually started DJing first, and not all that long ago. I had been an avid “scene” member for a fair amount of time, and one day I finally just said its time to learn how to mix. I went to the local music store, picked up what I think were honestly the crapiest turntables ever made and went home to learn. Over the next 14 months or so I began to play with and learn from some local LA DJs like R-man and LRCN and began to find my stride I suppose. It really hasn’t been until very recently that I’ve started to try my hand at producing, just futzing around with the basic tools and taking my time to really learn the craft. It seams to me that the better I know the tool, the quicker I can turn an idea to reality and not be slowed down by fumbling at the process.

WKRaP: You’ve got to get started somewhere right? Any idea what those turntables were? I’ve always agreed with the theory that if you learn on shit equipment, you can play on anything better. Do you have any musical training in your background? As far as producing, is there a certain sound you strive for?

Jethro: They were Numark TT1620's and boy did I hate them, but I can attest that learning on them has made me who I am. I have zero formalized musical training, nor did I ever even play the simplest of instruments growing up, was always more of an avid listener. As for sound, I started as and will always be pure trance fan, cause for me music is nothing without emotion. And as far as emotion goes, trance has it nailed down.

That being said, I have transitioned into the realm of prog trance, cause to be honest I don’t find a lot of trance as interesting anymore, you can only push the simple 4-4 and melodic central style so far. I think that the creativity of the prog baselines and kicks combined with the melodic undertones of trance creates something truly special. The creations of say Ozgur Can or Peter Martin display truly what prog trance is all about. And I think that people are really starting to come around to enjoying it as well, it used to be that producers/DJs like Luke Chable and Gabriel & Dresden were considered good, but put in the category of 'those prog guys', now you have people like Markus Schulz and Armin Van Buuren playing majority prog sets on a regular basis to packed crowds of previously pure trance fanatics.

WKRaP: Progressive is where its at my friend, I’ve championed the sound in my 3 or 4 years of playing. Who would you say are your biggest influences on your production work? How about your mixing?

Jethro: Its still too early for me to say on production. I’m playing with as much variety as I can. I mean, I haven't really done that much of it yet.

As far as mixing goes, a little bit from column a and a little bit from colum b. I like so many DJs and for so many different reasons. Tiesto for example, I'm not a huge fan of his productions and some of his live mixing can be off. One thing is for sure though, he is packing clubs day in day out, cause he makes people happy, and they know what they are going to see. As far as idols, I have to look to people like James Zabiela or say the Oslo Nights Crew, all extremely creative and talented at the live mix. Zabiela has the most amazing talent for the use of FX and use of cdjs and ALL of their features which is something that I think impresses most DJ you will find. And the Oslo Nights gang is always trying out new and fun tracks that most people have never even though about buying let alone mixing it in the way they do.

WKRaP: What was one of the first electronic songs that really grabbed you? Why do you think it hit home for you?

Jethro: I think the first tracks that really grabbed me were the really early prodigy stuff like, charly cat and g-force. I also listened to a lot of cj boland, aphex twin, and the classic robert miles stuff. For me the genre got a hold of me in a way because I loved the creative samples and variety of track layout. I like rock/pop but its was all too much of the same, and I just couldn't feel a giant guitar solo - but who cant connect to people changing the “voodoo whodoo what you do”, or the speech and buildup from cj boland's the prophet.

WKRaP: Some would argue that electronic music is all the same, repeated loops and effects, sampled sounds, etc. What would you say to them?

Jethro: There definitely are some tracks out there, just like there are a lot of rock tracks that use the same 4 notes, or hip hop that uses the same beat and sample, it’s going to happen in any music style I think. For me personally the tracks I listen to and play have more going on that just setting a beat and looping it, anyone can make that. It’s the tunes that keep adding and changing throughout that represent the true form of electronica to me.

WKRaP: How big of an influence do you think electronic music has or will have on American culture?

Jethro: I think electronic music really hasn’t had a large influence on mainstream American culture like it has on say European culture. I do think that it is slowly taking a bigger foothold than it once had. For instance there was as ad on TV not too long ago with Motorcycle “As The Rush Comes” as the background music, then there are the Motorola ads with PVD, and BT and Oakenfold composing the scores for movies. I also see the growing trend of popular pop song remixes making their way onto local airtime etc. Its just a matter of time before more people warm up to and allow electronica into their lives, even my mother of 50 listens to progressive house.

WKRaP: Don’t forget Timo Maas in the Dodge Ram ads or Dirty Vegas in the Mitsubishi Ads. And how about John Digweed with his own score to “Stark Raving Mad”! I don’t think we realize how much electronic music we hear today – I think we hear it in quite a few more advertisements than we’d like to think. Lets change the direction here a bit. What was the first club you played at? Can you tell us about that experience and what it meant to you?

Jethro: First time I played in a club was actually my first night as a resident at lava in Los Angeles. It wasn’t really a big event to be honest cause I didn’t put a lot of stress or weight into it. It was like hey I’m playing for all my friends and some other people, in a different room. It was a blast though, felt good to be able to play for random people who had no idea who I was and have them enjoy what I was doing.

WKRaP: I agree it’s a special feeling knowing that the music you are playing (or creating) can touch someone or that they can relate to your music on some level. What is it that you try to convey in your recorded mixes? How about in a live performance? Are they different?

Jethro: My recorded mixes vary honestly. Sometimes I try to challenge myself with a new genre or mixing style or speed, and sometimes its just pick the first tune and see what happens. Playing live I usually have an idea of what I want to play but you have to respond to the crowd, you may show up wanting to play hard and they want soft or vice versa, that’s the fun of playing out.

WKRaP: So in your recorded mixes, are you just trying to show your ability and to have fun? Or are you trying to convey a particular emotion? I guess what I am asking is, in general what kind of level do you want your audience to relate to your music? Or is that up to the listeners to determine for themselves?

Jethro: Well again it depends on the mix. I have some mixes that I have try to make extremely planned out and technical, i.e. long carefully selected mixes and programming, and others I just go with the flow, which usually is a reflection of the mood I’m in at that time I record the mix. I really don’t think about how someone will relate to my mixes when I’m just going with the flow. When planning out a mix I give some thought to what type of path the mix will take, it can be an uplifting and happy set or a relaxing or deep set. To be honest most of my mixing in whole is happy and melodic, due to the fact if I’m mixing, I myself am happy and that just comes through.

WKRaP: Name for us if you would your top 5 DJs?

Jethro: That’s a hard question, really there are so many, but here goes in no real order.

James Zabiela
Hisham Samawi
Manuel Le Saux
Sander Kleinenberg
Nick Warren

WKRaP: An interesting list, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Manuel Le Saux, I’ll have to check him out. Nick Warren is one of my favorites, was lucky to see him play a 6-hour set up here in Boulder at Soma. Incredible. Can you name for us your top 10 pieces of wax?

Jethro: Wow I really have to think about that one.

Lamb - Wonder (Deadguys Vocal Mix) <white>
Undo/Redo - The Voyager/ The Bee And Its Flower <mantra>
D:Fuse - The Other Side <single>
Jon Creamer and Stephan - Compiled and Unmixed <bedrock>
Bart Van Wissen - Space Tourist/Distant Region <extrema>
Coast 2 Coast - Be With Me <religion>
Scanty 88 - Rathbone/The Heist <mantra>
Lemon 8 - New York New York <basic>
Johan Cyber and Jaydee - Crime/Dea <cyber>
Rolling Stones - Paint It Black <whitelabel>

WKRaP: Sounds like you know your stuff. Lamb and Lemon 8 are some of my favorite artists. Lamb is especially unique in my opinion. I’ll be sure to check out some of these other artists. What are the hottest pieces of vinyl in your bag right now?

Jethro:

Gwill morris – Time
Ozgur Can and Rouzbeh Delevari Tunes
Pinkbox Special tunes
almost anything that luke chable remixes.
A lot of Jark Prongo
Poweplant vs Conjure 1 - Deep Sleep
Perry Oneil – Fuel
Michael Burns EP
Nathan Fakes EP

Some older tunes like
Greyarea – Yeminist
Fred Numf and Etienne Overdijk – Drifting

WKRaP: Wow, first time I’ve heard anyone mention Jark Prongo since around 2000. He’s one of my favorites. What’s your favorite record label?

Jethro: Yeah Jark Prongo rocks hard; Rene and Gaston are always changing their style track to track. Favorite label would probably be Mantra Vibes or Hooj. Both have a HUGE catalog of prog and trance and most every track that they have put out is either something I own or want to own.

WKRaP: Do you belong to any record pools? If not, what’s the one pool you would love to belong to?

Jethro: I don’t belong to a record pool, partly because no one really knows me well yet, and partly because I really want to be on one. I do like free stuff don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think being in a record pool really does anything for you, other than make you stop digging and searching for the tracks that you can. I know what sound I’m looking for now, and I know where to go about looking for it.

WKRaP: Understandable. I don’t know though, I’d jump at a chance to be part of Balance. But that’s just me. I think a record pool offers some great benefits to DJs. Digging through crates for vinyl will never go away though. Where do you shop for most of your records?

Jethro: I do most of my shopping online at a lot of places lately. I don’t have the time to go physical record hunting anymore and shopping online allows you to listen to samples at most stores so you can sit in front of the pc and rifle through more records in less time. When I do have the time I hop on down into Hollywood and spend a day going through like 5 or 6 stores. That’s where you find the real gems and rare presses.

WKRaP: I’m the same way, its tough to find good records online, and I find generally there is a queue or wait for a fairly popular record. However, I still think nothing beats spending a day digging through the crates. Just wish I had more skrilla for the wax. Are there any particular online shops you can recommend to readers?

Jethro: When I need trance I go to only-djs.com, when I need good progressive its either planetxusa.com, satelliterecords.com or cyclotronrecords.com. Then I have a bunch of rare and non-popular sites that I make an order from once every few weeks to get the obscure and hard to locate stuff.

WKRaP: Lets get into some fun stuff shall we? What’s your favorite club?

Jethro: I always have a great time at spundae@circus which is spundae and godskitchen’s Saturday night in Los Angeles. They bring in a good mix of big talent from the prog/trance world, and the crowd is always in a great mood. L.A. has a lot of smaller venues that offer more relaxing and low-key events too though; it’s hard to pick a true favorite I suppose.

WKRaP: Sounds like a blast, I need to get out to California for some clubbin. What is your favorite movie to come out this year?

Jethro: Big fish, hands down. Puts a different perspective on ya.

WKRaP: Name your 3 favorite bands (non electronic).

Jethro: Third Eye Blind, Ben Folds Five and Ben Harper.

WKRaP: What’s your favorite food? How about your favorite restaurant?

Jethro: Favorite food is chilimac (spagetti, marinara, chili, onions, cheddar cheese). Favorite restaurant is any steak house that serves big pork chops with twice baked potatoes.

WKRaP: What’s currently playing in your CD player?

Jethro: A james jollins mix.

WKRaP: I ask everyone this, I guess for my own personal interest – Coke or Pepsi?

Jethro: RC Cola

Well thank you very much Jethro, for again taking time out of your life to speak with this humble blog. I find your DJ or performance name very unique. Where did you get the name Roman Red?

Chris: Wow...what a first question. This is a long story. For brevities sake, one of my best friends and fellow co-writer/producer had deliberately botched my real last name because so many people mispronounce it. He called me "Tortelanski" which reminded another friend of Roman Polanski. So that was my nickname for a good 4 months until someone joked that I should make a beer and call it "Roman Red". At this time I had just started dabbling in mixes and decided I would make my buddy a mix for his Birthday. As a tribute to the cheeky bastard that started the nickname, I dubbed it "mixed by Roman Red". Well, he gave this mix to about 15-20 different people who fell in love with it and would e-mail me with that "DJ name".... It stuck and I decided to keep it. When I got my first gig in Chicago, I asked some friends if I should actually give the promoter that name or my real name. They voted "Roman Red" and one friend (Jason Warth) made a sweet logo. There was no turning back at that point.

WKRaP: See, I knew there was an interesting story behind the name. Roman Red Beer - they should make that you know? Even if it were only half as delicious as your mixes it would be a quality beer. Speaking of your mixes, when you make a mix - what is it you are looking to deliver to your audience?

Chris: <laughs>Thank you. I do like red beer too. When I make a mix I'm all about vibe and story line. I think every piece of music in every genre tells a story and the beauty about the DJ mix is you can find songs that tell a similar story and link them together. Performing in a club, it leans more toward a vibe. Just keep them dancing and having a great time. For recorded mixes I try to put a story in there. I don't mean like a protagonist/antagonist, but more like a sound scape that is painted. I think that progressive house more so than any other dance music form gives you this opportunity to create a palette AND the colors on that palette. Because the breakdowns are subtler and the music has more of a flow to it, you're able to almost hypnotize people into a certain energy level and then, if you're lucky, you can take them on a journey. Digweed, Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, James Holden; they've all been integral in how I view the purpose of a DJ set. And if you hear what some of these pioneers are doing to the music as well as the technology of the performance, I can see Progressive being a force. Just listen to Sasha's "Involver" or James Holden's "Balance 005" compilations and you'll be moved.

WKRaP: Great answer, and one I wholeheartedly believe in myself Chris. So, is it safe to say you would call some of your greatest influences Sasha, Digweed, Holden, etc? Who else do you consider influences on you or your work? Also, who at this moment in time do you consider to be at the forefront of the DJ Culture?

Chris: Actually, my greatest influences are outside of the genre. Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Ozric Tentacles, and Tangerine Dream, to name a few. These artists create moods and textures that I attempt to mimic when I set out to make a DJ mix. I may not be able to play guitar as good as David Gilmour, but I may be able to drop a track that has the same "mental" effect as one of his solos, to the listener.

As far as the forefront of the DJ culture: It would have to be Sasha. His newest release, Involver, utilizes new technology and a new approach on the "DJ compilation". Probably by the time this is read he'll be completely digital using Ableton Live and CD players. And Involver demonstrates that power, when it's in the right hands. If this is indeed the future, I can't wait to get on board.

WKRaP: I’m not so sure on the “new approach” – while it is new in a sense, I don’t think he’s the first to do it. Check out Timo Maas – Music for the Maases 2. I am fairly sure all pieces on the album have been ‘touched’ by Timo in some way, shape or form – from production to remix work, all mixed.

How big of an influence do you think electronic music has had on your life?

Chris: It's been a HUGE influence. Once I got hooked on PvD and John Digweed, my life was never the same. But it's been there since I was a kid. My father got me into Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, and other electronic pioneers. Some of the first CDs I ever owned were ones I yoinked from his collection. More to the point, I think the technology that electronic music depends upon so much has been an influence as well. The tools we have today really blur the line between top-dollar studio time and some guy like me in a two-bedroom apartment. It's given me a new outlet in the form of Mind Soup, a collaborative down tempo group I'm involved with. We have a whole album done and some of the stuff we created could have never been achieved or even dreamt of, if electronic music and the tools these musicians use didn’t touch us. It's kind of upped the ante for producers, and as such, electronic music is the most innovative and progressive form of music out there. It constantly re-evaluates and re-constructs itself and every time there's something new for the listener to draw from.

WKRaP: How does your work as a DJ affect your production work and vice versa?

Chris: I find lately my production work is affecting my DJ work. I had no problem spinning Trance and Club hits, and ASOT was my favorite show. Then, as I got back into producing, I realized that a lot of the Trancey Club hits out there right now are quite canned and not a lot of variety. But then you have progressive, the genre that got me INTO DJing in the first place, and you have a more open and wide palette to work from. A lot of people have a hard time pegging what Progressive is exactly. I think that's the point...It's constantly progressing. So you can have tracks from the likes of Ozgur Can or Probspot show up in a DJ Chloe set, and the next day you'll hear them on ASOT or Radio Fritz. So that, with my musical influences, and my work with Mind Soup, made that genre a perfect match. On the flipside, my love of dance music in general has influenced a lot of the material with Mind Soup...The three of us have widely differing musical tastes and it comes together quite nicely.

WKRaP: I think progressive, as a whole, has really caught on the last year or two with more and more big names playing and pushing the sound. Part of me enjoys this, but the other part of me detests this as I think about the true spirit of ‘underground’. What do you think about electronic music growing in our culture and what effect do you see it having on society as a whole?

Chris: I can't say I'm seeing the same thing. I can still buy a John Digweed ticket at the door and if the rest of the world knew what I did, you'd think tickets would sell out immediately. Personally, I'd like to see electronic music as a whole get terrifically huge. Not so everyone becomes rich, nor to make it any easier for people to be a DJ/producer. I think if you beat the bushes and shine a huge light on the genre, it will grow and get better. We'll have to endure the "topless" DJs and other fad-style crap, but at the end of the day, the visionaries and true artists will emerge. Then, as with any genre, once it's time has come and pass, we'll be able to return to the underground with a whole new set of heroes, and a whole new outlook on how to progress and improve the genre. Right now it's posh, in places, but ultimately it's already starting to stagnate. Trance music has been stagnating for a couple of years and now House is starting to follow in the laziness. So if we can bring it to the forefront and get a mass audience, the artists will have to produce better music and the DJs will have to acquire better skills and that can only help in the long run.

WKRaP: The cream always rises to the top, as they say. Anyway, sure you can go to a party and still get a ticket at the door, but you’ll be paying out the ass to do so. Some advice to our readers: Always get your tickets in advance, it’s much easier on the wallet! But I do feel electronic music is a bit more available to the mainstream than it used to be, would you not agree?

Chris: I think Brittney Spears, when I think mainstream. It may be more popular, but it could stand to be a whole lot more popular. I know I'm the minority in that opinion. I just want some of these terrific artists to be recognized.

WKRaP: I guess we think differently when we think about what mainstream means. I wasn’t talking in a “Brittney Spears” sense, just a generalization that its accessible to the masses in their everyday ordinary life, whether that means you hear it in the background of advertisements, or you hear electronic music getting some air play on FM radio. I definitely believe we continue to push the boundaries in regards to how much a part of our every day lives electronic music is. Where do you see our see electronic music in say, 10 years? Will it be a larger force than present?

Chris: Hmmm. Hard to say. In ten years usually trends run their cycles. This pop-rap thing will probably be on the downward slope. I think the "fashion model turned singer" craze will kind of die down too. If we have a war, it may influence resurgence in music with a message. But as far as electronic music, it will probably be as it has always been, influencing almost EVERY other genre out there, but never truly appreciated for the artistry and talent that it is comprised of. This may be good for the fans that like it to remain underground. That will probably keep the momentum enough for people to continue to make music. I think DJs and Producers are going to have to resort to different methods than before. Word of mouth isn't going to cut it in 10 years and there will be some radical new ways to deliver music considering that bootlegging that goes on now. It doesn't "pay" to write a song nowadays, and I don't see that trend going away. Musicians and DJs alike are going to have to pay closer attention to what they release and who they release it to in 10 years, so they can continue to support a lifestyle. It'd be, nice to see this global community that electronic music has created be one of nurturing and supporting. But in reality, I think it will still be mainly leeches and fickle listeners, because right now, they have that luxury... Everything is free and you can change the channel at any time. As a fan, you'll have to dig deeper in 10 years to find the good stuff.

WKRaP: I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. There are pros and cons to it, but with the way record companies work right now, and the RIAA, I hate it. Change and reform is necessary in my opinion. Can you name your top 5 DJ’s right now? How about a top 10 record list?

Chris: Well, that's a fluid concept. My moods change daily. By and Large I think my top five DJs, in no particular order are:

1. John Digweed
2. Sasha
3. James Holden
4. Hernan Cattaneo
5. Meat Katie

But that's just at the moment. Of "ALL TIME" would be a different story. I can't list top ten tracks because I've only scratched the surface since I've been in the production booth so long. A couple of songs you could drop at any time and get a smile on my face.

1. Blackwatch & Greed - Gentle Rain (Grayarea's Dismembered Breaks Mix)
2. N.E.R.D. - Maybe (Sander Klienenberg Remix)
3. Benz & MD - Still Rain
4. Probspot - Blueberry
5. Spektrum - Kinda New (Tiefschwarz Dub)
6. Ozgur Can - Weighless
7. Lo-Step - Burma (Sasha's Involver Remix)
8. Steve Porter - Vodka Cranberries (Grayarea Remix)
9. Stel & Good Newz - Particle
10. Roman Red vs. Beastie Boys - ChChCheck it out (Roman's Vocal Mix)

WKRaP: Roman Red vs. Beastie Boys! Where can we hear this? The new Beastie Album is great, but I still think Check Your Head is their best work. What would your favorite record label be?

Chris: Couldn't agree more. Check your head was a terrific album and so ahead of its time (for Hip-hop). The remix I did was on my 3 hour set I just performed and will be available for Download at romanred.com. Depending upon when you post this I may be able to get a WKRaP Exclusive mix done and it would be on there. Top Labels for me are Bedrock, Plastica Red, Shinichi, Hooj, and Release.

WKRaP: Readers, be sure to check out the mix. 3 hours? Beautiful! And a WKRaP exclusive mix? Even more beautiful! Where do you shop for your records? Do you dig through crates and bins or do most of your shopping online?

Chris: I don't really have access to a proper record store here. So 99% of my shopping is done online. Right now EDMdigital.com, releaserecords.com, and dancerecords.com. The nice thing about the style of music I spin is a lot of the good tracks see early American releases instead of just being available in Sweden, Germany, and the UK before showing up here. So usually I can find what I'm looking for. I do like onlydjs.com and technodj.de for Trance music, but if you are in the US be prepared to pay upwards of $14 per track. When I'm in Chicago I never miss going to Grammaphone on Clark...Awesome House selection.

WKRaP: Lets get into some fun stuff. What do you have in your CD player right now?

Chris: Chloe Harris - Oslo Nights

WKRaP: What is your favorite nightclub?

Chris: Well, you say this on the eve of me going to Ibiza, so I'm sure this will change when I return. My favourite club currently is Vision in Chicago. Love the DJ booth there. But Crobar in Chicago has better sound (Phazon System)

WKRaP: What is your favorite movie? What is your favorite quote from that movie?

Chris: Pink Floyd - Live at Pompei "I'll have eggs, sausage, chips, beans, and a tea"

WKRaP: What is your favorite color?

Chris: No, its not Red, its Purple.

WKRaP: What is your favorite food?

Chris: Fajitas from Uncle Julio's Hacienda in Chicago

WKRaP: Coke or Pepsi?

Chris: Neither anymore, but in my day Pepsi all the way.

WKRaP: What is your favorite Candy Bar?

Chris: 100 Grand

WKRaP: Chris, thanks for sitting down with us, I enjoyed the interview immensely and I know our readers will too. Have fun on your trip to Ibiza and Europe. WKRaP will be there with you in spirit man! And of course, you’re going to have to update our readers on your trip when you get back. You're one of my long time personal favorite DJ's that’s out there. I've always gotten a kick out of your name, very clever play on words. However, I think you would agree not everyone quite "gets it". Can you tell us how you came across the name X-Ray Ted?

Oleg: I am not quite sure myself. First nick I picked up was Jocker (as both a jock and a joker), but it was not long until I got bored with it. The image of the clown behind the wheels of steel was not appropriate when I thought I might get serious about this one day. Thinking about some cool alternatives, one evening I stumbled upon X-Ray Ted, which in my mind would sound like x-rated. I'm not exactly sure when this happened (should be beginning of 2001) and why I picked it, but I decided to stay with it. Too bad almost no one catches the subliminal message and everyone thinks Ted is my real name. Searching the Web, I found out that there is an alternative rock group of some sorts with the same name, and I swear I did not plagiarize or steal the idea.

Believe it or not, I got tired of X-Ray Ted quick enough. The alias by which I'm known by to most of the (few that know me) people on Different message boards in Russia is Yujanin, which in Russian means Southerner. Don't ask me why I picked that one up - I don't know either (maybe to oppose everyone's opinion that it is freezing to death in Russia all year round). But Yujanin sounds pretty melodic and simple, yet strange for everyone to pickup. However, with X-Ray Ted mixes being already rotated on DI.FM with unexpected volume of responses, I decided not to change the nick for the second time.

WKRaP: Probably a good idea, you do have a fairly large and established fan base. Maybe Yujanin is a name you will use later on in your career. Speaking of your mixes, who or what do you look to for inspiration in your mixes? What producer would you say has the heaviest influence on your mixes?

Oleg: The remark about fan base is flattering, but you are exaggerating. And before we move on to the talk about influences I would like to say something. It is shameful, but there was nothing new from me for more than a year. A lot of time was consumed by my studies in college, and now with full-time job. I am trying desperately to find time to produce a new mix, but I am a perfectionist and I have discarded 6 or 7 mixes so that they wouldn't be just to quench the listeners' thirst. Still, I've heard a lot of awesome tracks lately, and will definitely try to come up with something soon.

My inspiration is my senses. What do I feel when I close my eyes and listen to this track or that track. And then I try to make those feelings flow nonstop the way I want them to. Making sets for home listening, in my mind, is very difficult and differs a lot from the live club sets. In the club, the main drive is atmosphere, that euphoric feeling in the air. With online radios and prerecorded mixes, you can't just achieve that, so you have to be extra-careful about what you put - and don't put - in your mix. Simply getting the 10 most played tracks at the moment and mixing them won't cut. And in this, I rely mostly on my own feelings from my mixes as to what I want to be the next piece.

Sometimes, I discarded mixes because of one track, which just didn't fit in. Believe me, mixing is the easiest part of all this process. As to the persons that had a great impact on me, I would probably surprise most of the readers, but my number one inspiration was Judge Jules back in 1999, namely his compilation Ministry Of Sound Clubber's Guide To... Ibiza Summer Ninety-Nine. It all started for me with that, and I still find the particular tracks on that CD awesome (such as Carte Blanche - Veracocha, Lovechild - Liberta or Tiesto - Theme from Norefjell). After that, I was fascinated with Armin, Tiesto and Ferry (the great Dutch bunch:) - both DJ- and producer-wise, and at the time Paul Oakenfold was also doing great stuff. Looking back, my favorite set must be DJ Tiesto live @ Energy 2000 – the quintessence of energy, trance and, what many people forget now, PLUR. And as for producer influence, I would say it was Corsten. His (somewhat cheesy) System F - Cry and (awesome) remix of Barber's Adagio still leave me daydreaming. But throughout these years there were so many great tracks and producers that my compilation of all-time favorites would extend to dozens of tracks. If I were to name just one track that is my favorite, I would pick Tiesto's remix of Delerium - Silence.

WKRaP: I understand about perfectionism, I myself am my own worst critic. I’ve been working on my latest mix since October, trying to piece together the perfect set. It can be a daunting task sometimes.

You touched upon PLUR (peace, love, unity, respect) briefly. A great and once inspiring concept behind the music that many have now forgotten. Why do you think the electronic culture has forgotten about this basic concept? Do you think one could possibly attribute this to the downturn of the rave scene? This is, after all, the first year that the Love Parade in Berlin will not be taking place.

Oleg: I think this PLUR thing is lost because we lost the people who advocated that idea. We have lost the idea why open airs started in the first place. It was the community of happy people dancing to their favorite music. Open airs were held not because of the commercial profits, but because of that cornerstone idea of PLUR, of people joined by universal religion of music. It was more of an underground thing then, and after the big guys saw the potential profits, it was obvious that the scene's never going to be the same. The first Woodstock and the last Woodstock (which failed miserably) can be used as an example here. The difference is Jimmie Hendrix didn't do it for money. The guys at the last Woodstock did, while trying to impose on us the same image of hippies and pacifists of the first Woodstock.

However, I don't see that global failure of raves yet. They are closed in Berlin but are opened in the other places. Moscow just held a Gatecrasher festival with tens of thousands of attendees, and St. Petersburg has a major open-air in a month headlined by Tiesto, Corsten and Lange... The scene is evolving and taking new shapes, and I am very excited to see where it goes further. It is no longer trance, or house, or electro... It is the fusion of all the genres in one beautiful story crafted by a skilled DJ. We don't see Tiesto banging just trance anymore. Instead of drinking vodka straight, people start enjoying much more sublime and pleasing cocktails (sorry for such a comparison). I myself find it boring playing trance and only trance. I love breaks, I love sexy melodic progressive, and I love techy-ish tribal music, some hard trance, some techtrance, and some hard house... You just have to find out how to mix it all together. Maybe, with new questions, people are redefining the PLUR concept to find the new answers. At the end, each person finds something special in what he or she is doing, be it peace-love-unity-respect or drugs-alcohol-more-alcohol-vomit, and personalization is always a good thing, even though certain instances (like the one I just mentioned) are absolutely bad.

WKRaP: Lets change topics a bit. What kind of equipment do you use in your mixes? What kind of equipment would you recommend for beginners? What kind of technology do you see the DJ culture embracing in the future?

Oleg: At home I don't have the top-notch equipment. I am not a die-hard Technics 1200 fan. I use two Dennon DP-DJ 151 digital turntables (which are awesome and also cheap), an old-timer Gemini PS-626 mixer (that thing has probably stopped being produced for 5 years already), and really basic Numark CDN-25 dual CD player. I have Sony MDR V700 headphones, which sound great but I don't like their ergonomics. I'm thinking about changing them to Sennheiser HD-25. I also use Native Instruments Traktor (Virtual DJ Studio software) a lot for practice at home (I prefer version 1, never got used to version 2). I am amused at all the chastising of computer DJs. What does it matter if the mix was done on computer, as long as the crowd enjoys it? I think in the future more and more DJs will use different approaches and techniques together: turntables, CD-players, samplers, maybe even synthesizers. There are die-hard advocates of vinyl and turntables, but I think they're not going to last long. Paul Van Dyk sets the example to everyone, using Stanton Final Scratch. And since the mastery of DJing can be perfected really easy, the only ways to progression and development is experimenting with those new technologies.

At the end, however, I personally think that DJ technique makes up for no more than 10-20% of overall DJ success. The rest is music and atmosphere.

WKRaP: Have you ever used final scratch?

Oleg: No, I haven't. I've heard a lot about it though. Basically, it's Traktor software with special vinyl.

WKRaP: I've never used it myself, but have also read a lot about it. Pretty cool huh? Wish I could get my hands on it.

Oleg: Yeah, it's an interesting technology. Add to that the fact that more and more labels and online shops give the opportunity to download the legal MP3 of the single in CD-like quality for fraction of the price, and you definitely see new possibilities emerging for new DJs.

WKRaP: I would agree with you completely. I don’t know what the future of DJing holds for us all, but I like what I see hitting the shelves. I always thought of myself as a vinyl only DJ, but find myself questioning that belief. How do you view yourself as a DJ? What does your music represent for you?

Oleg: As I mentioned before, I don't tie myself down to one medium. For me, as long as I can move the crowd, I believe they don't care what I've used to create my sets. I want my sets to represent a story that I want to tell. For certain feelings, words are not enough, and I use music to craft my narration. The reaction I expect from the listeners is different feelings. I want them to feel dreamy, euphoric or sexy at
certain times. The flow of feelings is what I hope my music represents.

WKRaP: How big of an influence do you think electronic music has had on your life? How has it changed you as a person?

Oleg: It made me really crazy about nightlife. It also brought me a lot of pleasant hours of listening to the great sets, which there are so many. Trance and the other electronic music genres have a really great impact on me, the ultimate machine of sending shivers through my body. Without electronic music, my life wouldn't be complete.

WKRaP: What DJ's do you think right now have the biggest influence on the dance culture?

Oleg: Here in America, the biggest influence is of course DJ Sammy... The only one you can hear on radio around here. Globally, I think, it's Tiesto, and he doesn't lose his grip. I don't want to recite the DJ Mag Top 100, but I'm pretty much in agreement with that top.

WKRaP: I wasn’t in total agreement with the DJ Mag Top 100 this year. Call me a diehard Digweed fan. Nick Warren should have been higher too. What do you have in your CD player right now?

Oleg: Some unmixed singles I recorded for myself. Rapid Eye - Stealing Beauty, Sonorous - Protonic (Ronski Speed Remix), stuff like that. Relatively old.

WKRaP: Sonorous – Protonic, Ronski Speed Mix – what a great tune. Happens to be one of my favorites. Real quick, what are the hottest pieces of wax in your bag right now?

Oleg: The hottest at the moment for me are CDRs, and they happen to be from new Russian producers. Oceanlab - Satellite (Vadim Zhukov remix), Tsykhra - Laugh Out Loud, Aleksandr Polyakov - Don't Walk Away (Sound Fiction), Ilyia Maluev - Welcome To Heaven... Brutally massive, and unknown to almost anyone.

WKRaP: Fire off your current top 10 tracks for us.

Oleg: Will Top 5 suffice? Beyond those five, I cannot really assign places to the tracks I like, but these 5 definitely catch my attention:

01. Nickelson - Yin (Solid Globe Remix)
02. Ilya Malyuev - Welcome to Heaven
03. Tsykhra - Laugh Out Loud
04. Oceanlab - Satellite (Vadim Zhukov Remix)
05. George Hales - Autumn Falls (Markus Schulz Vs Alucard Remix Vinyl)

WKRaP: Since it's you, we'll take a top 5 instead of top 10. Which one of your mixes would you say represents your best piece of work to date? Which one of your mixes would you recommend for a listener new to your music?

Oleg: Definitely my last public mix, Movement# 5. This is the mix I'm the most proud of.

WKRaP: Movement #5 is my favorite mix of yours as well. Can we expect anything new from you in the near future? I know you’ve stated you’ve been extraordinarily busy – but I’m sure your fans (including myself) are foaming at the mouth for something new.

Oleg: I can't promise something in the NEAREST future, but I definitely say that there will be new mixes. I have some great plans for the autumn, finally creating that web page I cannot finish for three years now, and trying to have new mixes every month.

WKRaP: We'll look forward to your new work, keep us posted here at WKRaP and we'll help promote you in any way we can. What’s the one event you have always dreamed of playing?

Oleg: Gatecrasher festival. The biggest festival ever!

WKRaP: What DJ's do you most admire?

Oleg: I most admire the Dutch dream-team:) Tiesto, Van Buuren and Corsten. The guys showed with their consistent improvement that you can achieve everything you want to when you dedicate yourself to something. Armin is really great in person: humble, and always has respect for everybody. He is the one I'm dreaming of playing with.

WKRaP: Better hurry up and enter the Global DJ Broadcast contest. I believe the winner of that gets to have their set aired on Global DJ Broadcast, and they get to spin next to AVB. Okay, we're going to change direction a bit, just some fun questions so our readers can get to know you better. What’s your favorite color?

Oleg: I would say dark-blue

WKRaP: Favorite Food? Favorite Restaurant?

Oleg: Nothing like awesome Russian food, believe me:). As for restaurants, I like to explore different cuisines, so there's no favorite one. Right now, I like to go to Mexican restaurants.

WKRaP: I am a person that loves to eat, and I admit I am not all that familiar with Russian cuisine. Any specific dishes you'd recommend?

Oleg: You know, I've never been to a Russian restaurant; everything I ate is homemade, so I cannot guarantee you any specific experience. You should definitely try borsch and Russian ravioli (more traditional). As for exotic, try "ikra s blinami" (caviar with pancakes... even though it sounds really strange, believe me it is ultra delicious). Also try some exotic fish from Siberia. Russian bread is awesome (while American bread sucks). You know, I'm a big fan of food myself.

WKRaP: Food is one of those pleasures in life I can’t get enough of, like Music. Luckily I am blessed with a high metabolism, so I can pack it away and not worry about packing it on. Next question – Coke or Pepsi?

Oleg: Dr. Pepper. Sometimes Sprite. Orange juice with lots of pulp is the best though. Coke and Pepsi make me really sick.

WKRaP: I’ll take that as Coke then. What’s one place you haven’t been, that you dream of visiting?

Oleg: Japan. The culture fascinates me, even though my knowledge of it is only superficial.

WKRaP: Love me some sushi, sashimi, nigiri, and sake. Favorite Movie?

Oleg: Of all time, probably "My Cousin Vinny". Recently, "About Schmidt" moved me a lot. Of all most recent movies, I liked "Terminal" and "Shrek 2"

Viva La Revolution

Revolution WKRaP rolls on. Interviews with your favorite DJ's are well underway - with the 1st interview hopefully rolling out later this week.

Be sure to keep reading, as you'll see in depth interviews from DJs such as X-Ray Ted, Mike Hunter, Mischa, LRCN, Roman Red, Mark Hills, and many more.

Also, we've added even more links to the Offical DJ Links list - we've removed the top 10 baseball links list, and we'll be adding links for record/equipment stores. I've been awaiting this album for a long long time now - its a revolution of sorts in this day and age of electronic music - kind of goes with our theme here at WKRaP.

Revolution WKRaP

As the readers of WKRaP In Cincinnati are aware, this blog hasn't quite found its true meaning and value to the internet community yet. So far, WKRaP has been a dynamic blog, changing topics, formats, etc.

In an ongoing effort to steer this blog towards music - mostly electronic - I am putting together a project I call "Revolution WKRaP". I've got some good things in the works, so readers, please stick around. During the course of the next several weeks, and probably through the rest of the life of this blog(which hopefully is a long one), I am going to be personally interviewing a handful of DJ's and producers that I admire and respect. These will be any form of DJ or producer - from bedroom(i.e. amateur) to professionals.

Additionally, some changes will be made to the links section. You'll see less and less baseball links, as we steer away from the sporting aspect of the blog. Lets face it, there are a million baseball blogs out there, all of which talk about aspects of the game I have no patience to talk about - and they do it much better than I ever could. Hence the change in direction to focus on my other passion, music. Specifically electronic music. We'll be promoting all sorts of your favorite DJ's.. Maybe even big time shows or events. And fear not, everyone's favorite commentator Angry Phil will not be going anywhere. We'll still have his angry rants and raves to enjoy. Lets see how far Revolution WKRaP takes us. So, take off your coat, make yourself comfy.. Enjoy the ride.

Putting Finishing Touches

On the new mix from yours truely. I got the programming down just how I want it. I laid it down today, I just want to rework some of the mixes and effects. But I'm very happy with this mix. Probably the most happy I've been with any of my mixes ever. The whole set from start to finish is just mind blowing.

Next step, to formulate a name for the mix. I'm considering several right now, but still unsure. I may call this "Watch Over Her" - since this is a tribute to my fallen angel Katelyn. My little girl I never got to know.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reds won today... Sweep of the Rangers. Take that bitches! On to St. Louis. The Red Birds are in 1st place, and this will be the first matchup between the division rivals. This is a huge series, and may well determine whats going to happen to the Reds this season.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Music Album of the Day: X-Ray Ted - Movement #5

Visit X-Ray Ted's Official Website!!! Click on the link above to listen to Movement #5 - one of my favorite mixes from my good friend X-Ray Ted!

Streak is over

Its over. Its finally over! Thank the good lord because things were getting mighty ugly. The Reds, losers of seven in a row, pulled out a come from behind win against the Rangers tonight. Things looked bleak when pitcher Jung Bong gave up back to back home runs putting the Rangers up 4-2. The Reds rallied in the bottom of the 8th and 9th to tie the game. Larkin his a bases loaded single that ricocheted off Alfonso Soriano's glove at second to win the game.

Finally. This one belongs to the Reds. They needed this one. Big win.

Adam Dunn 3 for 5 on the night.

Ken Griffey still in pursuit of #500 - also had a good night. Looking forward to Griffey hitting his 500th in Cincinnati. Make it happen Junior! Make it happen!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there any doubt that one of the top producers and DJ's in the Electronic Music scene today is none other than Ronski Speed? This guy is all over the place, producing smash singles one after the other. His remix work is, without a doubt, magnificent. His latest production work, E.O.S. is solid and catchy. While I don't think its his best work - I really prefer his remix stuff to date - I do think this is one of the better tracks to come out so far this year.

Ronski Speed - E.O.S
Ronski Speed - Iris
Ronski Speed & Sonorous - Maracaido
Aly & Fila - Eye Of Horus (Ronski Speed Mix)
Sonorous - Protonic (Ronski Speed Mix)
Sonorous - Glass Garden (Ronski Speed Mix)

The hits just keep coming and coming. Cheers to Ronski Speed. One of my current favorite DJ's and Producers. Now with a compilation - Positive Ways 3. I'll be purchasing this set. Its sure to please. Top shelf stuff people. Don't miss him. His link is above and under the DJ's link list.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Added more links to the DJ Link list.. Also favorites. DJ Link's list is turning into quite the compilation of links. I'm still looking to add more. If you see a DJ you love that you would like added to the list, please email me atDJEtan303@turnthatshitup.com!.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Music Album of the Day: DJ Tiane - Solar Stone Tribute

Please please please click on the link above to give a listen! DJ Tiane is a good friend, and possibly one of the hardest working DJ's I know. I spend most of my workday changing passwords for people who can't be bothered to remember them. That's fine; I forget some of my passwords from time to time.

There are some rules for resetting passwords: it has to be your account and it has to be the primary username. I'm not changing the password for your cousin's, neighbor's, mom's, dad's, sister's, wife's or husband's username. It has to be yours. I'm also not going to change the passwords for your kids' six usernames because you're too lazy to sign in and do it yourself.

I let people know these rules right away but very few of them believe me. When I hear from someone who is not the account holder, I usually let them know this then ask them for the account holder's name. (This gets them thinking about who they need to harass next.) At least half of the people reply with their own name . . . their OWN goddamn name! Didn't I just tell you that's the wrong answer, dumbass? In what part of your life does repeating the wrong answer enough times eventually make it right? There are others that manage to insult me while acting like a dumbass. They reply, not with the exact name they gave earlier, but with a slight variation. They apparently reason that I'm confused because they didn't give their middle initial or because they wrote Tom instead of Thomas. I'm pretty sure even the tard that works down the street at Red Robin is familiar with the concept of nicknames even if he can't spell -- you guessed it: d-u-m-b-a-s-s.

Others can handle it when I tell them this account ain't theirs but they refuse to accept that the username they've used every day for the last two years isn't actually the primary on the account. I would feel some sympathy but these are the same people who contact us once a month for help doing something that requires their primary username. Each time they're certain it's some kind of outage or company error that's causing the problem. Each time we remind them of the real primary username. Each time they complain that they want the other username to be the primary and have repeatedly told us to "fix" this for them. Each time we give them a new password for the real primary then explain how they can make their favorite username into the primary. And each time, they storm off upset that the world doesn't mould itself around the expectations of their DUMB ASS!

Yeah, I still hate everyone.

Kerry in 2004

They're Angry. I've sort of had a falling out with new music in the last several years. In my humble opinion, a lot of it is just mass produced pop crap shoved down our throats by corporate conglomorate record companies. Bands like Lincoln Park, Nickelback, Evanescense etc are ruining the good name of Rock n Roll. I can't speak for everyone, but they've certainly ruined the experience for me. Hence why I dove head first into the underground world of Electronica. A world of music that wasn't so much in the grasps of the mainstream fuckwads who would ruin it by 'poping' it out and producing it for the mainstream masses.

Enter Velvet Revolver. I've waited for you for 5 good long years.

Comprised of an all-star lineup, Velvet Revolver features Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum, former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland and ex-Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner.

Talk about refreshing. Talk about a breath of fresh air... wait.. scratch that... Its more like being submerged under water for a good 30 minutes then coming up for your first gasp of air. Its the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm finally excited about Rock n Roll again. I can't remember the last time I was this stoked about any new Rock album. Just pray Scott Weiland - one of my favorite vocalists - can keep his head straight and his shit together. This band has a TON of talent.

"We can't play nice or play radio...To me, this is the first dangerous band that's come around in a while--truly dangerous," explains McKagan.

I would have to agree with Mr. McKagan. Thank you Velvet Revolver. Thank you for restoring some of my faith in music, that it can still mean something, that it can still rock without having to conform to the mass stamped sound of todays music..

*cough* Lincoln Park *cough*

You can listen to this album FREE, by clicking on the heading of this post. It will take you to Velvet Revolvers OFFICIAL site, from there you can link to MTV or VH1 and listen to the album. I would certainly recommend it. This defenitely has DJ Etan's stamp of approval. And thats hard to come by.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Music Album of the Day: Joshua Ryan - By Design

You can Purchase Or Listen Here!

Please be sure to support all the artists on this site. Listen and Purchase their material. Especially Joshua Ryan. I've had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mr. Ryan, and I can attest to the fact that he is one fine human being. A very classy and very friendly individual - an artist who cares about his music and his fans. Mr. Ryan took timeout for more than a half hour to talk music with me. We talked mostly about his then new remix of Keoki's Pass It On - a fabulous melodic piece of music that almost didn't make the cut for Moonshine. Well, it would have been a big mistake in my opinion if Moonshine didn't release the track. Good thing they got their heads out of their asses and released it. One of my favorite tracks by him. But I will have to say, his new pieces, especially Buildings Inbetween have blown my mind away. I will be featuring this track on my new mix - which is coming up shortly!

New Mix Well Underway

After working on laying the tracks down for the past week or so, I finally went in for a recording session today on the new mixer. The track selection is primo, the songs flow super well. So I'm layin it out this morning, when it happened. I was interrupted momentarily and accidently hit the LINE/PHONO toggle switch on the mixer. Switched over to Line.. no sound. So, I'm gonna have to lay it down again, but I'm happy with what I've got so far.

As soon as this is done, I'll be handing it to some internet radio stations(Radio Red, Trance Sessions, etc.) for some play and I'll be sending it to several different promoters in the Denver area. This is by far the hardest mix I've ever worked on - Its been almost a year in the making - since last October. So its going to be perfect before I get it out.

I'm hoping to land some type of semi regular gig with this mix. I'll keep everyone posted here, so check back for more info.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Reds MASHED 5 HR today to beat the defending World Champions, the Florida Marlins. Things defenitly looked bleak, as the Reds 5th starter - Todd Van Poppel(the guy who replaced Jimmy Fuckin Haynes) - gave up 5 runs early to give the Marlins a 5-0 Lead!

Then it happened.

3 Run HR by Sean Casey

1 Run HR by Wily Mo Pena

1 Run HR by Barry Larkin

The Reds were leading 6-5 and then promptly gave up the lead to go down 7-6. Things were looking bleak again.

Well, with a man on and Sean Casey up the marlins decide to give him an intentional pass to get to Griffey. This had Deja Vu written all over it. In the previous Reds/Marlins series Casey was intentionally walked to get to Griffey and Griff hit a game winning 3 run HR. So what does he do this time? In fact, most were just praying for a split. The Reds took the entire league by surprise, sweeping the Astros, and storming ahead to take sole possession of first in the NL Central.

Tonight the Reds faced Josh Beckett, a great young pitcher(who I also have on my IBC Simulated team) who's stuff is very nasty. The Marlins have also been playing great ball under former Red's manager Jack McKeon. The two teams came head to head tonight, with the Reds striking first. Barry Larkin turned on a 96mph fastball from Josh Beckett and sent it out of the park. The Reds let 1-0 for quite some time until the Marlins tied it up off back to back doubles from Lowell and Cabrera. That's when McKeon made a fatal mistake. With a man on base and Sean Casey up, McKeon intentionally walked Casey to get to Griffey. Griffey promptly hit a 3 run bomb and the Reds went up 4-1. As Griff rounded the bases, he gave one helluva stare to the Marlin dugout. Classic. The finally score was 5-2 as the Reds won their 7th in a row! And as of this moment, it appears they will go up 1.5 in the Central. They've won their last 10 out of 11 I believe, but are 9-1 in their last 10 games. They're playing extremely well. Its been a joy to watch.

All I can say is I attribute a lot of this streak to the release of Jimmy Haynes. Praise the lord!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I laid down the ground work for a nice new progressive set yesterday. I am going to shuffle some tracks around, but the set flows very well. I feel is probably my best work to date, and I'll keep everyone posted. The Set is going to start with a nice breakbeat tune by Joshua Ryan - its going to then move into some progressive tunes and will continue to build energy until it peaks around the 6th or 7th records(I can't tell you which, as the peak to this set is just insane!). After it peaks, its going to go out with some nice progressive styled breakz. Check back for future updates and information.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Album Of The Day: Roman Red - Movements and Progressions 01

Download Roman Red's Sets Here

What Kind Of Electronic Music Are You?

I took this quiz purely out of curiosity. When I spin, I normally spin some Progressive House/Trance/Breaks, with a bit of epic stuff mixed in for some emotion. When I am purely a listener, I like most anything - Trance, House, Hard House, Breakz, Progressive, Drum N Bass, Jungle, UK, Garage, 2-Step... Anything but Happy Hardcore. So what do you think my results were?

Electroclash

WTF? I listen to electronic music pretty heavily, and I dont think I've ever heard of this genre. So I did a little investigating to see how much I really do like this category. I looked up electroclash on google. Found a couple of things:

Defenition 1

Defenition 2

Well, whatever it is, I can safely say that I still think of myself as more of Progressive guy. Whether that be breakz, house, or trance - doesn't matter. What kind of Electronic Music are you? Click on the title heading to link to the quiz, or down at the bottom of this page.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Reds take 2 of 3 from Colorado today with 8 strong innings from Paul Wilson Joe Kennedy was mowing down the Reds until they were able to score 3 on him in one particular inning. The three runs held up as the Reds won 3-1. They currently sit at 22-18, just 2.0 games out of first place in the NL Central.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Music Of The Day: DJ Love - Evolution 2004

If you'd like to listen to this set, download it by clicking Here. Just be sure to right click the link and select Save Target As. Even more importantly, at 8:32am on this day - Mt. St. Helens blew her lid with all of her fury in the largest volcanic explosion in North America on record. You can read more about this by clicking on the heading of this post - it will link you to a very cool site about Mt. St. Helens and the eruption. The site has some pretty neat movies you should check out.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Reds failed to deliver a win for my Birthday making me fairly unhappy. The lost to the Rockies 8-3 in game 1 of the 3 game series in Cincinnati. I was excited earlier in the year when I saw the Reds were playin the Rockies in a series starting on my birthday. Unfortunately for me they play in Cincinnati.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Picked up some new records over the weekend! Got some goodies, both new and used:

Way Out West - Intensify(part 1/part 2/peace division remix)
New Order - Crystal('Bedrock' Mix/Dub Mix by Digweed/Muir)
The Crystal Method - Keep Hope Alive(LP version, BT creatine method mix/ak1200 wild ride mix)
Ocean Lab - Satellite(original above & beyond mix/Markus Schulz Coldharbour Mix)
Tall Paul - Free Base(original mix/argento remix)
Joshua Ryan feat. Harland - Building Inbetween(Trap Kit remix/Luke Fair remix)
Hyper Vs. General Midi - We've Been Waiting(original mix/Fretwell Mix)
Keoki - Me(original/the wizard of oh's hardhop remix/d'stills no drug remix/control x remix)

I picked up Way Out West, an album I used to own before damaging my only copy. Found it used for 4 bucks so I couldn't pass on it. The Bedrock mixes of New Order are sweet, I prefer the Dub Mix. The Markus Schulz Coldharbour mix of Ocean Lab's Satellite is absolutely amazing. The Argento remix of Tall Paul's Freebase is just insane. Joshua Ryan remixes are nice, but I may have preferred his original stuff - luckily he has a hand in the Luke Fair remix. The biggest piece'o'wax I picked up was the Hyper Vs. General Midi record. Talk about the best of everything. Progressive Breakz, with an absolutely maddening bass rift. Top shelf record. Be sure to check it out. And Keoki's Me - an old school tune released on wax not to long ago, has some very cool unique vocals to it. Always a big Keoki fan, I had to pick it up.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Album Of The Day: Donald Glaude - Off The Hook

Donald Glaude's Official Website

Get Well DMX

Here's wishing you a speedy recovery Bro.. He walked 1 and struck out 4, throwing only 85 pitches. As impressive as his start was, the offense left Cory with a loss as the Reds scored only 1 run in a 1-2 loss to the Padres. Disappointing to say the least. Its not often The Reds get such a good start from a starter, especially one of this quality. This should have been a win, but The Reds failed to capitalize and then were shut down by The Padres impressive bullpen. The Reds remain 1 game over .500 at 17-16 on the year.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Be sure to check frequently for changes and updates to the site. Continuous enhancements and improvements are being done as I continue to shape this blog into what I want. I can't say for certain if this is going to be more baseball oriented, or a blog more oriented towards music. Shit, it may be an amalgamation of everything - I haven't quite decided. Could you tell I am rather indecisive?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Album Of The Day: Nick Warren - Global Underground 11: Budapest

Nick Warren's Offical Site

This album is pretty damn sweet if I do say so myself. One of the first Global Underground albums I picked up. Its old school Nick Warren - he's changed his sound and adapted with the times, as any good DJ will and should. But for me this sound is special. It reminds me of when I started going to parties and getting into the scene. To me it represents the peak of my party career. During a time when there was a lot of the same sound and cheese floating around, Nick Warren was able to pick a handful of top shelf tunes and spin it into a weave of bliss. Be sure to check out this album if you haven't heard it. Shit, just check out Nick Warren. He's amazing. I'll never forget his 6 hour set he played at Soma in Boulder, CO. Incredible. So here's my spot to an amazing DJ in Nick Warren, a DJ who I've always looked to for inspiration and motivation. Cheers.

Reds Prevail 6-3

The Cincinnati Reds had home runs from Ken Griffey Jr and Adam Dunn to lead them to a 6-3 victory over The Padres on Tuesday. Griffey hit his 7th of the year off David Wells. Griffey has really stepped things up since being dropped to 5th in the order by Dave Miley. In that game in which he was demoted he responded by going 3 for 5 with a Home Run and 5 RBI. Adam Dunn also tied for the league lead with his 11th Home Run of the season. Dunn himself really appears to have turned it around from last year under the tudalidge of Chris Chambliss. The Reds are 2 games over .500 at 17-15 - good for 3rd place in the division and 4 games back from division leader Houston.

On Tuesday The Reds called up left hander Mike Matthews to fill Jimmy Haynes spot on the rotation. The move helps balance the bullpen. The Reds had only 1 left handed reliever in Phil Norton on the roster since opening day. Matthews, who has pitched for St. Louis, Milwaukee and San Diego, agreed to a minor league deal with the Reds in January. He went 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA in 11 games for Triple-A Louisville.

RHP Bobby Basham, one of the Reds' top pitching prospects, had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, The Enquirer reported May 12. A bone spur was also removed. He's expected to miss up to a year. **Note: This sucks for me, as I just traded for Basham in the International Baseball Confederacy**

***Additional Note: More bad news today - The IBC Reds' shortstop of the future J.J. Hardy has suffered a dislocated/torn shoulder and will be out the remainder of the Year. J.J. was just startin to find a groove in AAA - raising his numbers to .277-4-20 after a slow start. I'll write more about this kid tomorrow***
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't miss Denver's favorite punk band, Hit Or Miss

Hit or Miss, who recently rocked out the Hard Rock Cafe in Denver(so well in fact, they were asked to return to play again!) have their next show this upcoming Saturday, May 15th. The show starts at 9PM, and is located at Larimer Lounge(27th & Larimer, Denver, CO). Also playing will be The Burn. Come party with the bands, its sure to be a drunken good time!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Album Of The Day: Nicholas Bennison - Crystal Vol. 2

Nicholas Bennison's Offical Website

MLB Reds Waive Haynes

It's about time..

After 5 Games and 4 Games started, The Cincinnati Reds of MLB have released Jimmy Haynes and placed him on waivers. Unless someone picks up ol' Jimmy off the waiver wire, the Reds will be forced to eat the remaining part of his guaranteed 2.5 million dollars.

Big deal. I doubt anyone will be picking up Jimmy Haynes and his 0-3 record and 9.60ERA anytime soon.

This roster move should have been made last Wednesday - The day they had a meeting about the game in which Jimmy let up 6 runs in 1 inning, including a grand slam against the Brew Crew. Potential candidates to fill the roster spot are Brandon Claussen, Matt Belisle, and Jung Bong..(Bong!!!! I can't wait to get my Cincinnati Reds Jersey that says Bong. What a truly glorious piece of apparel!)

In other news, Moises Alou(and Jorge Posada) apparently soak his/their hands in urine before batting in games.. Some players will do anything I guess to break out of a slump..
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=mlb&id=1796632
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In IBC(International Baseball Confederacy) Reds land..

The IBC Reds made a couple of big moves before last weekend's series against the IBC Giants.

The Reds traded Phenom Dustin McGowan, Wilson Betemit, and 2003 draft pick Richie Gardner to the Braves for Moises Alou, Brad Lidge, Eric Reed, and 2003 draft pick Ryan Harvey. The Reds gave up their top prospect in McGowan for some immediate help in the outfield and bullpen. In addition to that, the Reds received a good prospect in Reed, and a guy who could have arguably gone #1 overall in the 2003 draft before a knee injury in Ryan Harvey.

The Reds then immediately shipped out Moises Alou, Jason Giambi, Derrick Turnbow, and 2002 draft pick Alex Hart to the IBC Mets. In return, the IBC Reds Jeff Bagwell, Cliff Floyd, Bobby Basham, and 2003 draft pick Carlos Quentin.

Its obvious in both trades the Reds received good value in return for their players, helping in the areas of Offense, Bullpen, and Farm growth - while not overturning the roster so much that they do not have a chance for success this year.

If you would like to view the IBC Reds you can check out their roster Here
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Etan's(AKA The Cincinnati Kid) Electronic Album of the Day: DJ Dara - Further

DJ Dara's Profile
