Finally.... Respek!

Finally Electronic Music is getting some recognition. This year, the category of “Best Electronic/Dance Album” has been added to the Grammys. There were some previous categorys that would seemingly fit the billing for EDM. —”Best Dance Recording” and “Best Remixed Recording" you would think would fall under the EDM category. But in 2003 Beyonce featuring Jay-Z's "Crazy In Love" took home the award for best remixed recording. Give me a fucking break. Not to diss Jay-Z as I was heavily impressed with his "black album" - but how does a pop-chart sensation fall into this category? Don't they win enough awards? I know Richard Humpty Vision did win a grammy for one of his albums - either "Damn That DJ Made My Day" or "Shut The Fuck Up And Dance" - I can't recall off the top of my head. But still, its been hard for deserving EDM artists to make their way into this prestigous awards ceremony. Finally EDM is getting a bit more respect.

Click the heading of this post to read an article from djmixed.com about this. Oh, and by the way the links have been updated. A few more well deserving DJ's added. I promise, I will be working on the DJ Resources links soon. All of my own personal favorite online DJ equipment and record stores and resources.

DJ Tiesto made olympic HISTORY on Friday, August 13th when he became the first DJ EVER to perform in an Opening Games Ceremony of the Olympic Games. Talk about a world stage. Fuck yeah! Nearly 4 BILLION people watched the 28th Olypic Game's openening ceremonies. No DJ has EVER performed at the Olympic Games. It just goes to show you that this DJ is highly respected in the world of music, especially in Europe.

"In October 2003, Tiesto was approached by the Athens Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (ATHOC) for a DJ-performance of 90 minutes during the parade of the athletes, a part of the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games

During this parade, all participating nations introduce their athletes, over 10,000 in total. ATHOC has shown it values art and innovation by asking the most popular DJ on Earth to produce the music for the parade.

In connection with this announcement, Tiesto said, “I am honored to be to be part of the biggest sports event in the world. The fact that the Games are returning to their birthplace and to the city where they were revived makes Athens 2004 very special. The opportunity to perform my music for billions of people around the globe will be the greatest highlight of my life.”

Hell yeah. Go Tiesto. One of the world's top DJ's.. this year voted the #1 DJ in the world. Its a great honor and a great example to spread the music and the vibe. Nothing better than a world stage. Litterally.
